Murphy’s Live began in 2004 and has grown every year since to become Ireland’s biggest band competition with over 450 entries in 2008. The competition is all about new Irish bands and giving them the opportunity to perform with some of Ireland’s most successful live acts in great venues across the country. Headliners in the recent past include Duke Special, Cathy Davey, The Blizzards, The Automatic and UK Chart-toppers The Enemy. With a high profile judging panel consisting of leading industry professionals, bands are judged on their live performance abilities in a number of heats in cities and towns such as Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Limerick and Clonakilty. Murphy’s Live offers the winning band a phenomenal galaxy of music prizes worth €10,000. Media partners include Hotpress and 2FM. Murphy's Live 2008 came to an epic climax in The Savoy, Cork with a full house of over 1,000 music fans in attendance to see finalists Bravado and Gorbachov battle it out for the prize. Waterford band Gorbachov were victorious. See the video below for highlights. In 2008 the Murphy’s Live franchise grew to include the Cork X Southwest festival in Skibbereen, West Cork.
